Traditional radiators earn their place on looks and then justify it on output. The column profile gives far more surface area than a flat panel of the same width, so a 3 column puts out roughly a third more heat than a 2 column across the same stretch of wall, and a 6 column more again.

Measure your pipe centres first. Pipe centres are the distance between your existing valve tails. Match that number and the new radiator goes straight onto the pipework you already have, with no lifted floorboards and no re-piping. It is on every DUSC Columns listing.

2 Column68–92mm
The slimmest option. Hallways, landings and bedrooms, or anywhere a door or a walkway is tight.
3 Column100–118mm
The all-rounder, and the most popular by a distance. Roughly a third more heat than a 2 column of the same height and width.
4 Column140–160mm
Living rooms, dining rooms and period properties with high ceilings, bay windows or solid walls.
6 Column243mm
Maximum output from the least wall. Extensions, conservatories, and rooms that have never quite warmed up.

White 4 column 750 x 1370mm — 9,766 BTU. The highest output in the range. Above roughly 25 sq m you are into two radiators rather than one, which also heats the space more evenly.
Common questions
What makes a radiator traditional?
The column profile. Instead of one flat panel, the radiator is built from vertical tubes joined top and bottom, which is how Victorian cast iron radiators were made. These are pressed mild steel rather than cast iron, so they weigh a fraction as much, hang on ordinary wall brackets and reach temperature in minutes instead of an hour.
Will one fit my existing pipework?
Usually yes, if you match the pipe centres. Measure centre to centre across the two valves on your current radiator and look for the same figure on the listing. Fitting new valves at the same time adds roughly 90mm to the overall width.
Do column radiators work with a combi boiler?
Yes. They connect to a standard UK two-pipe central heating system exactly like a panel radiator, and hold a similar volume of water for their output. Nothing special is needed at the boiler.
How much heat do I need?
Work on 390 to 520 BTU per square metre of floor, and use the size guide above to match a room to a radiator. Every listing publishes its output in watts and BTU. Size up towards the higher figure for north-facing rooms, bay windows or a lot of glass.
What guarantee do they carry?
