Calacatta Cava takes the classic white-and-grey marble and warms the veins towards taupe, so it sits with oak, brass and cream rather than fighting them.
Calacatta Cava is Formica Aria decor F5018: a white marble-effect compact laminate worktop with warm grey veining that leans warm to taupe, in a semi gloss finish, made as a single solid slab in 12mm or 20mm with a square edge. Waterproof through the core, 10-year manufacturer guarantee. The 3.6m x 650 x 12mm worktop is GBP 397 inc VAT.
Pressed as one compact laminate slab with the decor on both faces and the veining through the full thickness. That solid construction is why the edge can be square and the sink can sit underneath.
Calacatta Cava is a white marble with veins that lean warm - translucent grey shading into taupe - rather than the cool grey of Calacatta Marble. The effect is softer and more traditional, and it flatters timber, cream and brass where a cool marble can look clinical against them. The semi gloss finish gives the gentle reflection of honed stone.
Works with: oak or walnut cabinetry, cream or taupe shaker doors, brass taps and handles, and warm white walls. The Calacatta Cava upstand and splashback carry the warm veining behind the hob and sink.

Because the veining is warm and varied, a fitter will choose where the joint falls before cutting, then cut with a compact laminate blade, router-finish the square edge and close the joint with a jointing kit and colour-matched sealant. The pattern runs through, so no edging strip is needed, and an undermount sink is fine on a waterproof solid slab. Talk to us first if you would rather we cut it.
Non-porous, so the things that stain real marble - wine, lemon, turmeric - wipe off with warm water and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers, cream cleaners and standing bleach on the semi gloss. Trivet for hot pans, board for cutting.
Is Calacatta Cava any good? For a warm, traditional marble kitchen it is the better Calacatta of the two in this range, and it is a solid waterproof slab with a square edge and a ten-year guarantee at laminate money. As with any compact laminate: plan the joint, support the slab, use the right tooling, and accept that deep damage cannot be polished out.
