Sahara Shell is the warmest decor in the Coreluxe range: a sand-coloured ground scattered with grey and white flecks, in the slimline 19mm solid surface board.
Sahara Shell is a beige quartz effect solid surface worktop: Coreluxe decor GC3391, a 19mm acrylic board in sandy beige with grey and white flecks and a satin finish. It is waterproof and non-porous, and joins are made with Pergamon-coloured adhesive. The 3000 x 650mm worktop and the 2000 x 920mm breakfast bar are GBP 498 each inc VAT.
Like every Coreluxe board, Sahara Shell comes with unfinished square edges. The front and end edges are sanded on site to match the satin surface.
Sahara Shell is a true beige - closer to sand or stone than to cream - with flecks of warm grey, white and the odd darker grain giving it the depth of a quartz. It is a decor for kitchens built around natural materials: it softens dark wood, complements terracotta and sits comfortably next to cream or sage doors without the contrast of a white top.
Works with: sage, olive or cream painted doors, walnut or dark oak, copper and bronze fittings, and warm stone floors. Avoid pairing it with stark blue-whites. The matching Sahara Shell upstand keeps the beige running to the wall.
The three pieces - worktop, breakfast bar and upstand - are cut from the same beige decor. Prices include VAT; delivery is GBP 36 per order or collect free from Burnley.

Sahara Shell is joined with the Pergamon solid surface adhesive, the colour matched to this beige, rather than the white used on the white decors. Otherwise the method is the same: square, router-finished joint edges, clamped and sanded flush; radius-drilled corners in every cut-out; 1mm per metre of expansion gap at walls; and two people to carry each board.
Clean Sahara Shell with a damp cloth and mild detergent and dry it off. Beige is forgiving of the light marks that show on a white top, but turmeric, red wine and beetroot should still be wiped up rather than left to sit. A solid surface cleaner freshens the satin finish.
Is a beige solid surface worktop a good idea? If your kitchen is warm-toned it is often a better match than any white: it ties wood and painted doors together and hides everyday marks well. You still get solid surface's discreet joins and waterproof top. The trade-off is that beige is a firmer style choice than white, so pick it to suit the room you have.
