A TRV is a Thermostatic Radiator Valve — the head senses room temperature and automatically modulates the flow to maintain your setting. Energy-efficient: only heats the room when needed, prevents overheating, reduces wasted heat.
Choose angled when your pipework rises vertically and needs to turn 90° into the radiator side tappings — the most common UK installation, especially for vertical radiators and towel rails.
Under Part L of the UK Building Regulations, all new radiator installations in dwellings must have TRVs (except in rooms with a central thermostat). Replacing manual valves with TRVs is an easy energy upgrade and recommended for all habitable rooms.
The head is marked 1–5 corresponding to approximately: 1 = 5°C (frost protect), 2 = 12°C, 3 = 17°C, 4 = 21°C, 5 = 27°C. Most users keep it at 3 or 4 for living spaces.
