You should select Straight valves when your central heating pipework comes vertically out of the floor and needs to connect directly upward into the bottom tappings of your radiator or towel rail. This creates a clean, straight line from the floor into the unit.
A TRV allows you to control the exact temperature of an individual room. It senses the air temperature around it and automatically adjusts the flow of hot water into the radiator. When the room reaches your desired setting, the valve closes, saving you money and energy.
The lockshield is the secondary valve included in this twin pack. It sits on the opposite side of the radiator to the TRV. It is used by your plumber to "balance" the heating system, ensuring that water is distributed evenly so all radiators in your house heat up at the same speed. Once set during installation, you rarely need to touch it.
These valves feature standard 15mm compression fittings for the pipework and 1/2" BSPT connections for the radiator. This is the standard UK size and will fit the vast majority of domestic central heating setups and modern designer radiators.
